The School of Robot Engineering  and Mechanical--Electrical Engineering Introduction

 

The School of Robot Engineering and Mechanical--Electrical Engineering(hereinafter referred to as “the School”) is a secondary School of applied engineering established by yl34511线路中心(中国有限公司)-Standard Edition 版权所有 (hereinafter referred to as “the University”)in an attempt to proactively adapt itself to the “6+1” pillar industries (A2 referring to auto and motorcycle industry, A3 referring to equipment manufacturing), “2+10” strategic emerging industries (B4 referring to robots and other high-end intelligent equipment) of Chongqing Municipality as well as tailor for the needs of Yongchuan District in developing Chongqing Industrial Base for Robots and Intelligent Equipment. The School is an authorized examination unit in CAXC Accreditation Program by the Information Management Center of the Ministry of Education ofChina, Vice President Identity Unit of Metalworking Professional Council of Chongqing Institutions of Higher Learning, Vice President Identity Unit of Chongqing Robots and Intelligent Equipment Alliance and NXCAD training and authorization center by Siemens.

The School’s electromechanical discipline originates from the agricultural mechanization classes and agricultural electrification classes(co-run with Chongqing University)back in 1976. The enrolment had been going for two years running until it was suspended on account of the adjustment of the direction of School development. In the process of molding the University into a comprehensive type subsequent to its upgrading to an undergraduate university, the University resumed its enrolment of specialized professional courses in mechanical-electrical integration (tailored to CNC technology), machine manufacturing and automation, and undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering and automation. Currently, the School has four undergraduate majors (or professional orientation) of mechanical engineering, mechatronic engineering, material forming and control engineering, mechatronic engineering (targeted undergraduate major by integrating secondary and professional education with undergraduate education), with the mechanical engineering major boasting municipal (provincial) characteristic specialty, the mechatronic engineering the university-level characteristic specialty, the mechatronic engineering (targeted undergraduate major) representing a university-enterprise cooperative major co-developed by yl34511线路中心(中国有限公司)-Standard Edition 版权所有 and Sinotrans & CSC Holdings Co. Ltd., one of the wholly-owned subsidiaries by China Merchants Group which is a large-scale enterprise directly under central management. The School has also opened “robots and intelligent equipment”-related courses, with master emphasis on cultivating students’ applied capabilities in industrial robots’ forming and manufacturing, installation and debugging, use and maintenance, system development, and the use and maintenance of automatic production lines. In addition, the School’s proactive effort in applying for developing robot engineering major is well underway.

The School possesses “three Departments, one Research Institute and one Center”, referring to the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering and the Department of Material Forming and Control Engineering, the Research Institute of Robots and Intelligent Equipment, and the Training Center for Electromechanical Engineering respectively. The School boasts a contingent of high quality teaching staff, with a comparatively sound structure in age, professional titles and education background, as can be evidenced in its 56 full-time teachers, of whom 8 are professors, 1 is Doctoral supervisor, 6 are Master’s supervisors,  11 are associate professors and 12 are with doctorate. The rest of teaching staff are all with or above Master’s degree and upwards of 50% of them are up to  the requirements of being both a teacher in School and a practical talent in corresponding professions in the society. Besides, the School has also recruited 18 part-time teachers comprising specialists and experienced members form businesses who can also assume the task of teaching.

The School consistently persists in its core mission of nurturing students’initiative and practical ability, lays emphasis on integrated development of theoretical teaching, professional practice and the cultivation of students’ comprehensive qualities, and takes initiative in forging a cultivation cradle for the birth of applied engineering and technical talents with theoretical knowledge, professional practice and comprehensive qualities. The School boasts a complete set of experimental labs and practical training rooms, on-campus electromechanical engineering training center and municipal-level electromechanical makers’space altogether valued at slightly over 16 million RMB yuan, including metalworking training room, traditional cutting and machining training room, CNC processing training room, material forming and processing training room, non-traditional machining training room, equipment maintenance training room, CAD/CAM/CAE training room, precision metrology testing room, mechanical innovative design lab, lab for mechanical and electrical hydraulic drive, PLC lab, automatic control lab, modular robot lab,  3D printing training room, robot testing platform, to name just a few. During the 13th Five Year Plan for Economic and Social Development, the School plans to put in place 10 million RMB yuan of investment in developing the Robot and Intelligent Equipment Practical Training Center and the Advanced Manufacturing Practical Training Center. In the meantime, the School attaches immense importance to developing off-campus internship and practical training bases through closely teaming up with enterprises from Chongqing High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Yubei Airport Industrial Park of Chongqing, Phoenix Lake Industrial Park of Yongchuan District, Shuangfu Industrial Park of Jiangjin District, Industrial Park of Dazu District and Industrial Park of Bishan District. As a result, a number of systematic off-campus internship and practical training bases have been established, covering ship manufacturing, auto and motorcycle making, machinery, chemical industry, oil, electronics and other fields, all for the aim of exploring and implementing “internship plus employment” and order-like cultivation mode for applied engineering and technical personnel. Since the School has been giving top priority to quality in cultivating talents, graduates of the School are highly popular with enterprises and the employment rate upon graduation is up to over 98%, which has helped the School repeatedly win the title of “Advanced Collective” in employment work by the University.

At present, the School is cooperating and coordinating with a number of units to develop Chongqing municipal base for cultivating robot engineering talents, including Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, GoogolTech Automation Co., Ltd, Chongqing Guangshu Robots Co., Ltd and so forth. The School has also purchased the stock to participate in Chongqing Dexin Robot Testing Center in a bid to co-construct the national-level robot testing platform. In the future, the School will further actively integrate resources of government, the university and enterprises to build the Chongqing Robot Engineering School, with special focus on cultivating high-quality applied engineering and technical talents in robots and intelligent equipment industry.
